They are using ads and internet searches to learn if the there are truly deals or is it hype? Vi Wilkinson’s family just donated the rocking chair and lamp that were given to her upon her retirement from Washington Schools. Vi served as clerk from 1969 to 1993. Head lice don't take summer off! Camps and sleepovers increase the chances of head lice. Specifically, DIRECT head to head contact increases head lice. Encourage your children to wear their hair up, ponytails, braids, etc. As an added precaution, buy your child their own ball helmet. Check your child's head at least once a week. WCES wants to encourage every student to read over the summer. That is why every student went home with a new book on the last day of school. If the student reads the book and does a drawing, summary, or other activity about the book, then brings it to school in the fall, the student will get a reward.
WCES has some fun afternoon activities planned on our last day for our students. This Thursday is our cookout and Tiger Relays. We are asking anyone who is eating at the cookout to reserve your spot by this Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. You can call the office at 785-325-2261, ext 2. The cost of the meal is $3.50. The cookout will be on the elementary playground. The Kindergarten, first, and second grade students will be eating at 11:00 and the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will be eating at 11:30 on Thursday. If you do plan to eat at the cookout, you may bring a blanket to sit on. If you are unable to sit on the ground, there will be foldout chairs available. We have symptoms of fifths disease in school. It starts with cold/allergy symptoms, maybe a fever. A few days later, the student might break out with a rash. The cheeks are usually red, there is a fine lacy rash on the arms, legs, torso. The student is no longer contagious once the rash starts. Juniors: Prom cleanup begins promptly at 1pm in east gym. Parents who did NOT help with food, dance, or banquet cleanup are asked to help. There will be food at the end.
Prom promenade: Due to the rain forecasted for this evening, prom promenade will be in the HIGH SCHOOL gymnasium starting promptly at 7:30pm. Parents, patrons and guests please park and enter the high school on the east side and students park and enter from the south side.

Washington County Elementary School students donated many items to Blue Valley Community Action Partnership in Fairbury to help Nebraska flood victims. Our school donated 653 items. Our community also helped with this service project by donating $1275 and $65 in gift cards. Thank you WCES students and community for your generosity.

Coach Romeiser took several students to the Powerlifting competition at Soloman HS Saturday, March 30. Grace won 1st in bench, 2nd in cleans & squats. She was also 2nd overall in her weight class. Kope won 2nd in cleans and was 3rd overall in his weight class. Sean placed 1st in squats, 2nd in cleans and was 2nd overall in his weight class. Both Tyler and Garrett had knee injuries last fall so they were not able to lift like they usually can. I am really proud of all of them!- Coach Romo

Washington County Band Boosters The Washington County Band Students and I would like to thank all of the Band Booster Parents for providing snacks for the students for after the games. The students truly appreciate having something there for them after they have worked so hard performing. Also, a BIG THANK YOU to all of the individuals who donated instruments to the WCHS Music Dept. this year so that all of our 5th and 6th grade students would have something to play. The WCHS Varsity Scholars Bowl team ended their season with a 3rd place finish at the Regional tournament held at Blue Valley High School on Thursday, January 31. The regional saw 14 area teams competing in 2 rounds. WCHS placed 2nd in their pool with a 6-1 record. In the finals that included 6 teams, WCHS tied for 2nd, but because of a loss in head to head play they took home 3rd place. Results were 1) Valley Falls 2) Frankfort 3) Washington County. Congratulations to the team on a great season!!!
