The recent events have changed all of our plans. My K-6 students had been learning about Reducing, Reusing, and .Recycling. We had planned on having a “Trashion Show” and modeling styles made from trash. The students were getting excited about doing this. We will do it next year, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have a “Trashion Show” at home! Collect items that would be thrown out and then design your own fashions made with paper, chip bags, whatever you can find. Get creative and please post your photos on Facebook! I would love to see how my kiddos are being creative! And don’t forget to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!

Hello to all my 4th grade parents. This is a message from Mrs. Baker. I was all geared up to see the kiddos this week. We were going to start adding and subtracting fractions, read new stories, learn more states and capitals, and finish researching and writing our Fish papers for the contest in art. Oh well, I guess we will wait a week. I do not have any “work “ to give students this week, but I suggest spending some time on IReady math. Many students are getting closer and/or surpassing grade level topics on their IReady pathways. This is what we want and this is something they can do this week. I encourage them to read and do IReady this week! Stay safe and healthy !

Mrs. Rundle’s second grade small group activity today was a STEM activity. The students had to work together to make a wind powered maze. Through this activity, they learned about the words: push, kinetic energy, friction, and obstacle. The students could only use connecting blocks to make it, they had to work together as a team to make a plan, And then build the maze and make any corrections to the plan that they discovered while making it. Then they raced the glitter balls through the maze using fat straws. Tomorrow, they will race again using different straws and balls to see what works the best to go through the maze the fastest. They learn teamwork, social end emotional skills, vocabulary and worked with numbers for this project.

They are using ads and internet searches to learn if the there are truly deals or is it hype? Head lice don't take summer off! Camps and sleepovers increase the chances of head lice. Specifically, DIRECT head to head contact increases head lice. Encourage your children to wear their hair up, ponytails, braids, etc. As an added precaution, buy your child their own ball helmet. Check your child's head at least once a week. Please read the following article from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Be responsible, notify any contacts your child has had. https://www.healthychildren.org/English/health-issues/conditions/from-insects-animals/Pages/Signs-of-Lice.aspx

WCES wants to encourage every student to read over the summer. That is why every student went home with a new book on the last day of school. If the student reads the book and does a drawing, summary, or other activity about the book, then brings it to school in the fall, the student will get a reward.
