Kansas Department of Agriculture Farm to School

Farm to School Program

During the 2018-19 school year, USD 108 entered into the Farm to School Program. This program is designed to allow local partners to donate items that can be used to provide fresh, homegrown products for school meals.  While garden items are also considered part of the Farm to School Program, USD 108 would like to use this program to provide locally grown beef and pork. The animals are donated, the district pays the processing fee, and we receive high quality meat for a fraction of the cost!

During the 2022-23 school year, we received the following donations:

  • Pannbacker Farms – 100 pounds of hamburger
  • Pat and Rose Zach -  196 pounds of hamburger
  • Keesecker Agribusiness - 2 whole hogs
  • David and Laramie Jueneman – one whole beef

During the 2021-22 school year, we received the following donations:

  • Adam Grover – one whole beef
  • Pannbacker Farms – one whole beef
  • Rod/Kannette Stewart –250 pounds of hamburger

During the 2020-21 school year, we received the following donations:

  • Adam Grover – one whole beef
  • Keesecker Agribusiness – one whole hog
  • Marla Strunk – ½ beef
  • Mid-Continent Farms (Greg/Debbie Stewart) – One whole beef
  • Pat & Rose Ann Zach – one whole beef
  • Rolling Hills – one whole hog
  • Rod/Kannette Stewart – 1 whole beef AND 300 pounds of hamburger

During the 19-20 school year, we received the following donations:

  • Keesecker Agribusiness-2 hogs
  • Frager Farms– 1 beef
  • Bill Keesecker – 1 beef
  • Garrett Stewart – 1 beef
  • Greg/Debbie Stewart – 1 beef
  • Rolling Hills – 1 hog
  • Rod/Kannette Stewart – 1 beef

These animals were processed at our local locker plant that is FDA approved.  The meat provided went a long way in providing nutritious meals for our students and also helped our food service budget’s bottom line.

The district would LOVE to partner with any individual or company who would like to donate an animal(s).  Please contact Denise O’Dea, Superintendent of Schools at 785 325-2261 for details or to donate.  USD 108 is so very grateful for this support and for community partners who are willing to step up to the plate and donate animals for our use.

Together we are……Tiger Strong!
