🇺🇸 Veterans Day Program at WCHS 🇺🇸 This morning, Washington County High School was honored to host our annual Veterans Day Program in the WCHS gymnasium to recognize and thank our local veterans for their service and sacrifice. The day began with a delicious breakfast provided by our FCCLA members for veterans and their guests. The program featured beautiful performances from our 7–12 Band, who played the Armed Forces Service Songs and The National Anthem, and our 8-12 Choir, who performed Patriotic Salute accompanied by senior trumpeter Tucker Huband. We were privileged to welcome Mr. Jonathan Matlack and Mr. Timothy Mueller as our guest speakers, both sharing powerful messages about service, honor, and community. To end the program the drawing winner was announced. The winner(Jon Cole) will be given a hand crafted wooden flag from two Woods Department students, Mayze Miller and Gatlin Willbrant. This flag will be custom engraved by Ethan Schuette for Mr Cole. Following the program, students and guests had the opportunity to visit and connect with our veterans—a meaningful way to express gratitude and learn from their experiences. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who attended and helped make this day special. Most importantly, thank you to our veterans—today and every day, we honor you. 🇺🇸

This week at Washington County Schools we are celebrating School Lunch Week. The theme is "Taste the World." The students are learning about different cultures while also increasing their excitement about school lunches. This weeks lunches have been focused on Italy, Japan, America, China, and Mexico. Students were encouraged to taste a food that maybe they haven't had before! We have discovered that many of our students loved the stir-fry vegetables! A big thank you to Nurse Lisa and our kitchen staff for preparing for this week!

We had a tough night last night in our JH Girls Basketball opener against Blue Valley. We lost both A and B games to a good squad. We have a lot to learn and develop this year. The girls fought hard and are very scrappy. I have no doubt we will get better.

Congratulations to two of our very exceptional musical student's Tucker Huband and Anna Le'cuyer. Tucker has been selected to participate in the North Central district Band, and Anna has been selected to be a member of the Honor Choir. They will perform in Manhattan on December 6! Then in January, Tucker will audition for the KMEA Allstate band, and we will find out if Anna is selected for the Allstate Choir.

Carter has been busy making game calls. He is doing a fine job on the wood lathe, and it shows. He made a duck call out of wenge with the brass band. He also made a goose call out of a hunter green/orange laminate. They look like calls you would buy from Cabela's or Bass Pro. Good job, Carter!

Joree made a quality-built horseshoe coat/hat rack. She used walnut and bent the horseshoes to make the hooks. She even used horseshoe nails to complete the look. Good job, Joree!

Hayden built a nice "chaos" cutting board. It turned out cool and looks like he glued up tons of little pieces, but there is a trick to making this style. He used ash, elm, hackberry, oak, and walnut. Good job, Hayden!

Lucas built a cool "crusader style" deer antler plaque. He used two exotic woods, wenge and padauk, for the neat contrast of colors. He did a nice job coming up with this design. Good job, Lucas!

Today was a great day for music. Today we had 4 students participate in the NCKMEA Middle Level Honor band and Honor choir event in Junction City. These 4 students had to try out in September to make this event. They sent in recordings, and impatiently waited for results. Honor choir members were Catlynn Hohner, Kinsley Anderson, and Spencer Kern. Honor band member Reid Scheer(who as a side note was selected for both!!) Also, happening today was our District tryouts for band, choir, and orchestra. 10 students got up extra early to travel to JC for those auditions. We will know those results in about a week, but I couldn't be more proud. Most of that group of ten had other commitments to get back to but sticking around for the entire day were: Lyle Milam, Macy Graff, Hayden Lohse, Charlie Yungeberg, and Anna L'Ecuyer. Not pictured but also trying out: Kelly Annunziato, Brianne Fincham, Tucker Huband, Witt Keesecker, and Zoe Sawin.
