It was a beautiful day for State Land Judging yesterday! Rod and Kannette Stewart, along with their daughter Ashley and son Ryan, hosted the North East Area State Land Judging event. The site was located north of Washington on their farm. The Washington County FFA and all of the teams that participated yesterday would like to thank the Stewarts for their time and resources to make this year's state competition a tremendous success! NRCS Officials put the competition together and judged the dig site with four soil pits, providing textures, slope, erosion estimates, and classifying the capability of the land for farm use or pasture land. Additionally, the site was evaluated for consideration as a homesite. Students tested their knowledge in determining what limitations would exist for someone wishing to build a home or ranch on a particular site by using a scenario developed by NRCS Soil Scientists David Kohake and Matt Brungardt, along with Soil Technicians Tim With and Austin Durst of the Washington County Office. Additionally, Tim Zenger, Kelsey Hatesohl, Bobby Smith, and the Washington County FFA Officer Team helped to conduct the event and provide a meal for the contestants afterwards. Thanks again everyone for all of your hard work in making our turn at hosting the State Land/Homesite Judging event a great success!
