Bruna Secures $10,000 Financial Education Grant
Palo Alto, Calif., UPDATED: Apr 28, 2021 - Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF), a non-profit committed to ensuring that ALL students leave high school with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly complex financial world, is pleased to announce Washington County High School was one of the first 141 schools that are groundbreaking recipients of the NGPF Gold Standard Challenge grants.
The NGPF Gold Standard Challenge recognizes and rewards high schools that commit to ensuring that all students receive a one-semester personal finance course before crossing the graduation stage. Each of the schools has received board approval for a one-semester personal finance course to be taken by ALL students with implementation to take place over the next several years.
The $10,000 grant funds may be used to modify curriculum, promote the course, engage with parents, host community events, or enhance classroom technology as long as the funds are spent solely on implementing and improving the personal finance course.
Starting with the graduating class of 2024, every student at WCHS will be required to take one semester of personal finance during his/her junior or senior year. High school business teacher Michelle Bruna was instrumental in securing the grant for WCHS. Bruna stated, “I believe financial education is one of the most important topics needed by students, and I am ecstatic Mr. Funke and the school board believe it too.”
