APPLICATION DEADLINE MARCH 28 Filling the Gap is a food assistance program provide in our NCK counties each year from early June to mid-August. This program for youth (ages 1-18) in low-income families (i.e., households that are below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines). In Washington County, we partner with Konza United Way, Washington’s Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and the Courtland Depot Market to provide children with 10 weeks worth of free, nutritious, and shelf-stable sack breakfast and lunch weekday meals throughout the summer when food can be scarce due to school being out of session. These meals are delivered directly to the home on a once-a-week basis. Limited availability per site, based on a first come, first served basis for those who qualify. When applying for Filling the Gap Program, applications are accepted online at https://www.nekcap.org/menus/family-community-resources.html Applications are due by March 28. Dates and locations of distribution will be announced prior to the end of the school year. Families can complete the application online at our agency website (www.nekcap.org) or call to schedule a phone appointment (785-547-7136). Flyer: https://5il.co/2hc5y

What do you do when it's 38 degrees outside so it's too cold to practice outside , you have 80+ kids out for track in HS and JH together, and only 1 gym available? You practice together of course! Stretch, warm up, and play alligator tag and tunnel tag with high school doing some extra jumping and relays, is what practice consisted of today: Good hard workout, fun, and good role models!#Tigerstrong

Emma with a nice cedar BBQ station. This can also hold a cooler if so desired. She did a great job using cedar that was milled last year. It turned out well and is neat to see a cedar log a year or so ago made into something functional. Good job, Emma!

Michael with a cool picnic table built out of treated lumber. This picnic table has a secret in that it conveniently turns into a pair of benches. What a neat dual-purpose project to build. Good job, Michael.

Washington County High School was recently notified that Talena McClellan was named a Rudd Scholar. She was selected as one of 700 applicants to complete the application process, one of 75 to interview, and one of 45 awarded. The committee selects students not based on what they lack but on what they possess in terms of hard work, grit, determination, and character. They are not looking for the brightest or busiest. They are searching for students who persevere. The ones who, though they get knocked down, get right back up. Those who will strive harder than everyone else and continue to meet their challenges head-on. Potential scholars possess traits like fortitude, tenacity, ambition, and resolve. We are so proud of Talena and wish her well in her future endeavors! #betigerstrong #ruddfoundation
